Brother Herbert Joseph Clark

 -1925-

A master's job is never done, it lives on through the ages.

The annual installation of officers was held on January 23, 1925 with District Inspector, Henry Ernest Verble, acting as the Installing Officer. It was an open installation and was held at the John E. Good hall located in downtown Clovis.

On February 13, 1925 there was a stated meeting and it was decided by motion and vote to not allow any more smoking in the Lodge room while it was opened. Up until this point it was okay to enjoy a cigar or cigarette while there were degrees being put on or during a stated meeting. This was a big change for the times and at this point the Lodge was paying for the cigars to be smoked.

This was the first year that the installation dinner was catered and installation had a total cost of $78.00, which was a lot of money at the time.

Las Palmas Lodge 366 invited Clovis Lodge to attend a "French Degree" that was being held in the Municipal Auditorium On May the 2nd. The French Lodge is still in existence this day and is located in San Francisco, California.

In March there was a night scheduled to give three first degrees, however, when the first candidate was brought in it was determined that he was to deaf to receive the degree and was taken back to the ante room until the Master decided that he would have to wait until further arrangements could be made for him to receive his degrees.

In April, the Standard Oil Degree Team, came to Clovis Lodge to put on a third degree for a Brother of this Lodge and a co-worker from Standard Oil. This was a standard practice thru-out the history of Lodges, for a man's co-workers to form a degree team and then give that man his degree.

In May it was Masonic School Week and there were no meetings held that week so that they might be able to go to the high school and enjoy the performance of the students in the school auditorium. There was also a discussion about "leakage" from the transactions of this Lodge. Nothing is inserted in the minutes about allegations, nor was it written how it was resolved.

In September there was a communication read from the Grand Master that prohibited the "contesting" of the conferring of degrees.
